BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS! | Chloe Kelly Seals England’s Euro 2025 Glory in Shootout Thriller

Two finals. Two shootouts. One ice-cold finisher.
Chloe Kelly does it again, burying the decisive penalty as England beat Spain in a heart-stopping UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final at St. Jakob-Park.

The Match That Had Everything

From the opening whistle, this final was electric. England looked up for it early, with Russo forcing a save in just the third minute, and Lauren James nearly pouncing on the rebound.

Spain responded with class — and after a spell of slick passing and high pressing, Mariana Cardante found the net to put La Roja 1–0 up.

But England don’t fold. They never do.

Super-sub Chloe Kelly was a menace down the left, and when she floated in a perfect cross, England equalised with a thunderous header. Cue the limbs. Cue the belief.

Both teams had their chances — Hampton pulling off a huge stop in extra time, and Kelly nearly bagging the winner with a low drive. But after 120 minutes, it came down to spot-kicks.

Penalty Perfection… AGAIN (We Were Not Okay)

Nerves? What nerves? Oh, only all of ours.

We were hiding behind our pints, gripping chairs, shouting at the telly — someone literally stood on a table and got told off (worth it). It felt like 2022 all over again… and then some.

  • Alex Greenwood stepped up first — ice in her veins. Calm as you like, left-footed, bottom corner. We exhaled.
  • Then Hannah Hampton guessed exactly right and saved Spain’s first. The pub erupted. Drinks flew. Someone dropped their chips.
  • And then… Chloe Kelly.

Déjà vu, or fate? Either way, she smashed it in — bottom corner, no chance for the keeper.

England. Are. Champions.
Again. We couldn’t believe it. We still can’t. Goosebumps. Every. Time..

From the Training Ground: How to Take a Pen Like Chloe Kelly

Want to channel your inner Chloe in a shootout? Here’s how to nail it under pressure:

1. Pick your spot early

Don’t change your mind last second. Decide, commit, and trust your technique.

2. Use your breath to calm down

Inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 4. Helps slow your heart rate and clear your head.

3. Side-netting is your friend

Aim low and wide, inside the post — it’s harder for keepers to reach, especially if you add a little power.

4. Practice with pressure

Make training penalties feel like matchday. Add noise, teammates watching, even a small reward (or forfeit) to simulate nerves.

5. Stick to your routine

Do the same steps, angle, and breathing every time. Confidence comes from familiarity.

According to England’s coaches, Chloe Kelly visualises scoring before she even takes the run-up. A little mental rehearsal = a big boost in confidence.

Hi there! I'm Anna Adams, your go-to source for all things women's football. I've been crazy about football for over 20 years, ever since I was kicking a ball around with my brothers as a kid. I've turned my passion into a career where I get to share all the cool stuff about soccer with you.

As a content lead, I've had the awesome opportunity to work with various sports brands and publications. Whether it's the latest gear, pro tips, or just some cool football trivia, I'm all about making football accessible, interesting and fun.

Off the screen, I'm usually out on the field either playing in local 7 or 9-a-side leagues or helping coach the next generation of football stars. There's nothing like seeing young players fall in love with the game just like I did.

When I'm not living and breathing football, I'm out hiking, reading or just hanging out with friends and family. I truly believe football is more than just a game—it's a way to bring people together and create lasting memories.
